Consignment For A Cause: The Meow Foundation Connection.

The success of Consignment For A Cause has really been seen through our alignment with The Meow Foundation. It all started through a part time employee at Thrifty Princess who also Volunteered for Meow Foundation.

I was in the early stages of developing Consignment For A Cause and and the Meow foundation was in the midst of collecting donations for their yearly garage sale fundraiser. That year they were focusing on household items and not accepting clothing, jewelry or accessories but understandably did not want to turn away the generosity of their donors. So they asked if they could bring consignment appropriate items to the store and I could sell it on their behalf. Obviously the answer was yes and Consignment For A Cause started officially with the onset of the MEOW Foundation account.

As the general model was still being put together this was a great opportunity to test the waters and see how it could work. I think we were all surprised at the quality and volume of the items being donated to MEOW from their supporters. And, literally in 6 short months the account balance ( which again is 40% of the selling price of an item) grew to $1300. This was a celebratory milestone! Our first cheque presented to MEOW and the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship.

So to clarify the timeline for this, Consignment For A Cause made its debut in the spring of 2016, the cheque event for MEOW was in November of 2016 and in May 2017 we opened the doors of our new location on Edmonton Trail!

Hold on! What’s this about a new location? You thought we were talking about MEOW Foundation! Well yes, so the success of the store and new partnership with MEOW Foundation as well as aspirations in continuing to build this program allowed Thrifty Princess to move to a bigger and better location. Which has been a very successful move for all parties involved. In June of 2017 we hosted another Consignment for A Cause party and presented a $4500 cheque to MEOW Foundation.

It’s been truly incredible, and the momentum continues as the store and Consignment for a Cause develops, the possibilities are limitless.

“The MEOW Foundation sends a big thank you to Thrifty Princess and Consignment For A Cause. Since MEOW has been part of this program our supporters have helped us raise over $15,000 by donating their clothing and accessories for re-sale at Thrifty Princess Consignment Boutique. Consignment For A Cause truly helps to save lives as all proceeds from funds raised go directly to the care of the cats and kittens at MEOW. 2018 was a very busy year for MEOW as we rescued over 1,000 cats, re-homed by adoption almost 1,000, and subsidized close to 2,500 spay and neuter surgeries for Calgarian’s in financial need. Every dollar raised allows us to help more cats and kittens! “
